On his return from the United State in October 1945, Masson lived for a short time in Lusignan, near Poitiers, but also worked in Paris.

When the poet René Char asked him to exhibit in Avignon, Masson discovered Provence and moved there in 1947, remaining in Le Tholonet, near Aix-en-Provence, until his death.
