Ronald Hurwitz - An American in Paris - Photographies

Ronald Hurwitz was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He has had a widely varied career in both photography and music. In 1981 his photographs were first shown in Toronto, awarded two prizes, and exhibited at the Déja Vue Gallery of Photographic Art. Since then, his work has been exhibited at galleries in Cleveland, Washington, New York, Toronto, and Paris. Mr. Hurwitz is the recipient of two Ontario Arts Council Grants, and his photographs of Paris are already in the following collections in France: the Bibliothèque Nationale, the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris, la Maison Européenne de la Photographie, and the Musée Carnavalet.

Ronald Hurwitz has been a member of the Toronto Symphony since 1975. He earned degrees in music from Indiana University and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he studied with the great viola and violin virtuosos William Primrose and Oscar Shumsky.

Mr. Hurwitz has also been a member of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra of The Netherlands, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and is the former Principal Violist of the Indianapolis Symphony. He has appeared as soloist and in chamber music concerts in Canada, the United States, and Europe, as well as on CBC radio and CBC television broadcasts.
